Study Claiming Nicotine Causes Heart Attacks Retracted
Stanton Glantz of University of California, San Francisco released a study and claimed vapes were more likely to cause heart attacks than traditional cigarettes. That study was recently retracted by the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Derriford Hospital in UK to Allow Vaping
Hospitals in the United Kingdom have begun to make policy decisions that reflect the PHE’s stance on vaping. Two hospitals, City Hospital in Birmingham and Sandwell General Hospital in West Bromwich, have even opened vape shops on the hospital grounds themselves. Now, Derriford Hospital is joining the list of hospitals that have adopted pro-vaping policies.
New Flavor Regulations and Disposable Vapes
On February 6, 2020, the sale of any vape pods containing flavors that were deemed “appealing to children'' were removed from the market. Because the FDA did not consider menthol or tobacco flavors as appealing to children, those vape cartridges were allowed to remain.
National Save Vaping Day
The National Save Vaping Day Website states, “we are asking vape shops, online retailers, distributors, manufacturers, and other entities that want to see vaping survive to donate some, or even all, of their profits for the day to the American Vaping Association (AVA) and the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association (CASAA)”.
The Flavor Ban Domino Effect
Michigan was the first state to announce a flavor ban at the beginning of September. As you may know, President Trump released a statement concerning his intention to ban flavored vapor products on September 11, 2019. Since his announcement, several government officials have taken public standings against e-cigarettes as well. Potential flavor bans are beginning to appear one after another. Some state representatives have ignored legal processes and they are initiating bans regardless of the desires of the citizens within their state. Michigan’s flavor ban goes into effect on October 2, 2019. Governor Gretchen Whitmer proudly announced her reasoning behind spearheading this legislation. Whitmer’s primary argument is the rise of vaping amidst adolescents, claiming that "It would never be permitted if it was cigarettes, but we’re letting these companies target our kids, appeal to our kids and deceive our children." Many vape shops are going to go out of business because of the ban, and many shop owners have stated that they cannot continue to operate from just tobacco flavored vape products alone.
LA Flavor Ban Passes Vote: How the Hearing Went Unheard
September 24, 2019 was a disappointing day for the Vape Industry and community. That morning and through the afternoon, hundreds of vape advocates attended the hearing for the ban of flavored tobacco and nicotine products in Los Angeles, California, filling the entire hall just about three times over.
