Hooray! You have switched over to vaping, and all the awesome gear that comes with it. Now your adventurous soul wants to take a trip, and you deserve it! In this post we will cover the latest rules and regulations that relate to flying with vape gear. Here's the game plan for this post.

  1. TSA Regulations
  2. Extra tips and tricks
  3. Conclusion

The laws regarding vape gear and travel have not changed in 2019. Electronic cigarettes, vape pens, or any other electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) are allowed in carry on bags, but not checked bags. And of course, smoking on board is never allowed. Sometimes when the overhead bins get full, the airport will ask passengers to gate check their bags. If this happens to you, remove your vape gear and keep it with you on the plane.

“Remove all electronic cigarette and vaping devices from carry-on bags if checked at the gate or plane side.” Transportation Security Administration

If you have a mod with 18650 batteries, you can just keep the battery in your carry on, and the rest of the mod can go in your checked bag. This will save some space in your carry on baggage. Let’s not forget about battery safety! Click here for a full list of which batteries the Federal Aviation Administration allows.

In addition to your mod, you have to bring your favorite e-liquids! These are treated like any other liquid when it comes to packing. You can carry as many bottles as you’d like in your checked bag. However, in your carry on bag, the bottle size is limited to 3.4oz(100mL) max. So leave your 120mL bottles in the checked bag. Travel tip - keep your carry on e-liquids in their own transparent ziplock bag to make going through security a whole lot smoother.

Lastly, keep in mind that international travel is a world of its own. Although the US has these particular regulations, other airports might do things a bit different so please check before you fly.

Can you vape at the airport?

As we know, vaping is not the same as smoking cigarettes when it comes to secondhand smoke. Even so, the areas that allow smoking are going to be the same places that allow vaping, generally. Every airport is different around the world, so definitely check with your airports about where the designated areas for vaping are located.

Extra note: E-cigarettes are banned in some countries. Make sure to check before you plan on bringing your vape!
